Thank you EZ

Right now I have 3 big knitting books out of the library.

Knitting Without Tears by Elizabeth Zimmermann
Knitting in the Old Way by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts
A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker

I have been thoroughly enjoying them all, taking notes, etc. But the thing that helped me the most was a very silly little thing. While making this baby sweater

I followed the directions about a make 1 increase and got a hole, in fact, I got several holes evenly spaced around the hood line. Yes, I now know I am supposed to twist, but bear with me. Anyway, I was reading Knitting Without Tears, when EZ mentioned instead of doing a traditional M1, she does a backward loop cast on. Ahhh. That is just my speed. It works. It's easy. No holes, no worries. So thank you EZ.

I've also been using this technique on my new mini sweater.

I'm adapting it to a smaller gauge because of the yarn, but it still fits and works so far. (I've taken it off the needles for a test ride.) I still need about 3 more inches to get to the bottom of the armhole. I'm guessing about 15 more rows if I go by gauge.

The first set of socks has started back up again.

I've gotten cruising on them again and I'm now finishing the heel gussets on the 2nd sock. Things went a bit more smoothly now that I am doing the heel properly.

On the left is the first sock. This heel was hard and wrong and took a freaking long time. That's because I did my (S1, K1) on the knit side, but for some reason I read the pattern, (S1, P1) on the purl side, instead of S1, purl across. This makes a huge difference. It was so hard and took so long. Ug. I don't have the yarn or the patience to take it out, so this little sockie and kiddie will just have to deal with it.

Sorry, no crochet projects right now. I have yarn and hooks lined up, but I really want to work on this mini sweater right now.

Lauren, you silly girl! Don't you know that you get to be good at crochet OR knitting, but not both?? Did no one tell you that socks aren't for newbies, let alone sweaters? He may be "Wonder Hubby", but you must be Wonder Woman, or her little sister, Fiber Goddess! Best, MJM
P.S. Isn't EZ great? Check out zimmermaniacs.blogspot.com!

Congrats, Laur for stepping up to the plate and accepting the family genes of creativity. I think you're close to mastering all of them and quite possibly adding to the list. Love, Mom

MJM, Thanks for the linky. I guess I'm a chronic over achiever. Either that or I just don't know any better.

Mom,
I learned from the best. Love, L
